Ray Kriebel funeral

Ray G. Kriebel, 90, formerly of Hereford, PA., passed away peacefully on Monday, January 31, 2011, in the Frederick Mennonite Community, Frederick, PA. He was the loving husband of Erma E.(Fox) Kriebel. They would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on Feb. 16. Ray was born in Hereford, PA, son of the late Andrew G. and Ellen (Gery) Kriebel. He was a 1938 graduate of East Greenville High School and served in the U.S. Navy Pacific Theater during World War II. He worked on his fathers farm and later was the owner and operator of A.G. Kriebel Meats, Hereford, a butcher shop started by his father in 1898. He retired and closed the shop in 1988. Ray was a life long member of Palm Schwenkfelder Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees and as Financial Secretary for 25 years. He was also a member of the American Legion in Palm, PA. Survivors: Along with his wife, he is survived by son Martin L. Kriebel and his wife, Kay M. of Alburtis, and daughter Kathleen R., wife of David Misner, Glenside; grandchildren Amy E. (Kriebel), wife of Jonathan Portzline, Fleetwood, Sarah E. Misner, North Wales, and Julia A. Misner, Conshohocken; and sister Miriam Huber, Quakertown. He was preceded in death by sisters Emarine Bachman, Verna Schultz, Elizabeth Graber, Pauline Slemmer and Dorothy Brunner and brothers Ira, Asher, Russell, Lloyd and Harold. Services: Services will be held Friday, 11AM, February 4, at Palm Schwenkfelder Church, 833 Gravel Pk, Palm. Friends and family may call Thursday evening from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Falk Funeral Home, 163 Main Street, Pennsburg, PA, and at 10AM at the church. Interment to follow services in the church cemetery. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palm Schwenkfelder Endowment Fund, PO Box 66, Palm, PA 18070. Heavenly God,

The first chill of winter comes, morning arrives while it is still dark. Bless all who shudder at one more reminder of darkness in their lives. Turn them to the light of your Son, Jesus Christ, our savior. Remind them that the true light has come into the world, and is available to us now, if we but accept it. Help those who feel the darkness not fall into personal despair, as if they have somehow caused this misery, but help them to realistically assess their situation, make corrections where helpful, and keep on moving into a brighter future. Remind them that Jesus himself cried out from the cross, asking where you were, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” You answered by bringing Jesus from the tomb of death, and into the light of resurrection. Bring them out of their darkness, and into your marvelous light.

Zechariah proclaims in Luke’s Gospel: By the tender mercy of our God, the dawn from on high will break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.” (Luke 1: 78-79)

Rev. Donald W. Wert
The Rev. Donald W. Wert, 77, of Lehighton, died Thursday, October 7, 2010 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Janice Ruth (Reichard) Wert. The couple celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary last July 31. Born in Catasauqua, May 29, 1933, Donald was the son of the late Raymond E. and Mildred G. (Kidd) Wert. He graduated from Catasauqua High School, Moravian College and the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia in 1959. He was ordained on May 23, 1959 by the Ministerium of Pennsylvania, fulfilling his long-time aspirations of becoming a pastor. He served as pastor of the Line Mountain parish (1959-1962); the Grimsville parish/ Zion, Krumsville (1962 – 1973); St. Pauls, Orwigsburg (1974 – 1979); Huffs / New Jerusalem Fleetwood (1979 – 1986); Union Evangelical Lutheran Church, Neffs (1986-1995) where he is credited with starting the current committee structure and initiated the Union Study process which eventually led to the building of a new church. He was named Pastor Emeritus of the congregation. Pastor Wert has been active in church and community activities throughout his career. He served as mission district dean and as a member of the synod Stewardship Committee, Rural and Appalachian Ministry Committee and Executive Board. Since his retirement in 1995, Pastor Wert has continued to serve as an interim and supply pastor. He currently is a member of New Jerusalem Lutheran Church (Trachsville), Palmerton. Survivors: In addition to his loving wife, Janice; sons, Robert T. Wert and his wife, Angie, of Kutztown, Ronald T. Wert and his wife, Andrea, of Lyons Station, Randall T. Wert and his wife, June, of Lenhartsville; brother, Robert Wert and his wife, Sandra, of Stroudsburg; eight grandchildren; predeceased by a sister, Janice Gallagher, a brother, Raymond Wert and a grandson, Timothy. Service: A memorial service will be held 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Union Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5500 Route 873, Schnecksville. Family and friends may pay their respects from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the church. The Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., in Schnecksville is in charge of arrangements. 250 Anniversary Feedback

Pastor Kropa,
Just had to tell you all the work and coordination rendered a most inspiring 250th Anniversary Celebration worship service.
I had this tingling sensation when all the pastors entered in procession. I overheard Rhoda Shaner say to Eleanor, “Isn’t this so exciting”. Eleanor said several times she was so glad she went.
Gloria was in her element at the organ and the singing was so robust. Northern Harmony produces such a powerful sound from a small group. And many were wondering who the trumpet player was on the postlude. A fitting ending.
Your comment about the “lost sheep” was priceless with O’Pake responding “Here I Am Lord”.
Anyone there had to feel themselves a part of God’s wonderful plan.
